Oase Armchair by Wim Rietveld for Ahrend De Cirkel, 1958
An Oase armchair designed by Wim Rietveld with a dark brown enameled metal frame and new red colored upholstery from De Ploeg. The bakelite armrests are intact and the frame has almost no signs of use. Wim Rietveld received the "Signe d'Or" for the design of this chair in 1959. Wim Rietveld (1924-1985) was a Dutch architect and designer, known for his industrial designs. He was a son of the world-famous architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld. Wim Rietveld studied to be a designer at the Royal Academy in The Hague. His high quality graduation project made such an impression on Willem Gispen, that he invited Wim Rietveld to work at his company Gispen. Rietveld worked at Gispen from 1953-1957. His award winning Oase chair, which he designed in 1958, was manufactured by Ahrend de Cirkel in Amsterdam.
